An Answered Prayer- Luke 1:13 ESV

13 But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John.

Zechariah was a priest. He and his wife Elizabeth had no children, but they had been praying for one. While Zechariah was performing his duties as a priest an angel appeared to him and announced that God had heard his prayer. John’s wife, Elizabeth, would bear a son to him and they were to name him John. The child was John the Baptist. God not only heard Zechariah’s prayer, he answered it in a way that Zechariah could not have possibly imagined.

God gives us the privilege of prayer. He does this because he desires to meet our needs. When we go to God in prayer and lay before him our requests, he answers them. Sometimes his answer may be more than we could possibly have imagined and other times his answer is no. But whatever the answer, it is for God to decide. He answers our prayers in accordance with his will.

If we don’t know God’s will, it may be because we have not prayed to him about a certain need or desire. If he answers our prayer in a positive way, we can know that what we asked is in accordance with his will.

What is your concern today? Have you prayed about it? Have you prayed expecting an answer? Go to God in prayer today. He just may surprise you. Of course, if you have not yet received Christ as your Savior, that should be your first prayer. I promise you, God will answer that prayer.
