Missionaries and Missions- Isaiah 6:8- ESV
8 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.
This was the call of Isaiah into ministry. It began with him hearing the voice of the Lord. The Lord asked: “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” This is clearly a reference to the Trinity. Isaiah’s response was: “Here I am! Send me.”
Isaiah was called to be a prophet. Today, all Christians are called to be missionaries. You may be called to be an overseas missionary, a missionary to some other city, state, or province in your own country, or you may be called to be a local missionary.
Jesus spoke of foreign missions in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18) when he told his disciples to go and make disciples of all nations. In Acts 1, he told his disciples that they would receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon them and they would be his witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
Here, Jesus spoke of local, national, and international missions. Have you heard God’s voice calling you into missions. If the answer is yes, your response needs to be the same as Isaiah’s response. If you have not received the call to missions, you are still called to local missions.
If you are a Christian, you have the Holy Spirit and his power will enable you to be a witness for Christ in your local community. Our churches need to be a witness for Christ to their community. See if your church engages in any type of outreach ministry. Then volunteer to get involved in that effort. Our lost world needs Jesus. Missions begin at home.
