The Sufficiency of God’s Grace- 2 Corinthians 12:9 ESV

My grace is sufficient for you…

When Paul wrote to the church at Corinth, he spoke about being harassed by a messenger from Satan, that he referred to as his thorn in the flesh. He states that three times he pleaded with God for it to leave him. But the Lord’s response was, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Paul then resolved that he would boast in his weakness so that the power of Christ would rest upon him.

Paul learned to accept circumstances that would weaken him because when he was weak he was strong. This appears to be an oxymoron until you realize that the strength Paul is referring to comes from Christ.

Just as God’s grace was sufficient for Paul, it is sufficient for us as well. When you are experiencing hardships such as insults, persecutions or the like, remember, God’s grace is sufficient for you. His power is made perfect in our weakness.

Christians have the indwelling Holy Spirit. Paul wrote elsewhere that greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world. Through His Spirit, the power of Christ is available to us, just as it was to Paul, and will help us to endure any circumstance that we may find ourselves in. Then, like Paul, we may glory in our weakness, knowing that the power of Christ will sustain us.

If you have never received God’s gift of salvation through Jesus Christ, make today the day that you do. Then you too, will have the power of Christ available to you to help you in your times of need.
