The Path to Exaltation-Matthew 23:12 (ESV)
12 Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
During the time that has come to be referred to as “Passion week,” Jesus was concluding his earthly ministry. While pronouncing seven woes to the Pharisees, Jesus spoke on servanthood by stating that the greatest among you shall be your servant. He then explained that statement by saying, Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
Jesus was the example of that truth as His ministry was to serve God and mankind. For us humans humility is very difficult. We all like to think of ourselves as better than we are. When witnessing to an unsaved person, we are often told about how good of a person the person is that we are witnessing to.
The truth is that when you declare yourself to be a “good” person, you are in fact, exalting yourself. God’s view is that we are all sinners in need of forgiveness and salvation. In fact, you cannot be saved until you humble yourself before God. When you humble yourself before God you display Christ-like characteristics. Jesus promises that when you humble yourself before God, He will exalt you.
If you are a Christian, continue to humble yourself before god and He will exalt you. If you have not yet trusted in Christ to be your Lord and Savior, you need to do so. Humble yourself before God. He has promised to save you and exalt you.
