The Birth of our Lord and Savior- Luke 2:11

11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

Wednesday of this week is Christmas Day, the day that we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His birth was prophesied by the Old Testament prophets. Micah prophesied that he would be born in Bethlehem. Isaiah told us that to us a child would be born, and a Son would be given.

The child being born speaks of his humanity. The Son being given speaks of his divinity. This week’s verse comes from the text where an angel is announcing the birth of Jesus to some shepherds. The angel told them that he was delivering good news of great joy to them.

The eternal Son of God (John 1:1-2), came to this world through childbirth.

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God.

Jesus Christ is God’s gift to mankind. Romans 6:23 states: 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

This gift from God truly is as the angel told the shepherds, good news of great joy. There is no better news than that of the salvation made available to mankind through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. This Christmas, take a moment to pause, reflect, and thank God for the marvelous gift of his Son and the salvation He brings.

Merry Christmas to all.
