A Better New Year’s Resolution- Psalm 25:4

4 Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths.

Last week we celebrated New Year’s Day. Wednesday was the first day of a brand-new year. Many people make new year’s resolutions. But how many of those resolutions last? They usually last a month or less.

Some people resolve to lose weight. Some resolve to quit smoking. Still others make all kinds of promises to themselves that they are unable to keep. This year, instead of making a resolution that is bound to fail, why not do what King David did in Psalm 25? The king asked for God to make him know the Lord’s ways and to tech him his paths.

New year’s resolutions are goals we set for ourselves. What better goal could we have than to come to know the Lord’s ways and to have the Lord guide us in his paths. Jesus would be more than happy to accommodate this request. In Matthew 7:7-8 Jesus promised:

7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.

Better than any resolution, the Lord answering this request for us to know his ways and to be taught his paths would bring great joy and satisfaction into our lives. What could be better than knowing the Lord’s ways and the path that we should walk? If you have already made a New Year’s resolution, it’s not too late to make this request of the Lord as well.
