Jesus-: The Son of God-Luke 1:35
35 And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.
As we prepare to celebrate Christmas, let us take time to reflect on the meaning of the day. The angel Gabriel was sent by God to a virgin named Mary to tell her that she would become the mother of the Lord Jesus Christ. He told her that she would conceive in her womb a bear a child who would be known as the Son of God.
Since she was a virgin, she questioned how this would be possible. Gabriel’s answer was essentially that she would be the fulfillment of a prophecy from Isaiah 7:14.
14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
The name Immanuel means God with us. And that is who Jesus is. He is God with us. Even to this day he is still with us. He told his disciples in Matthew 28:20 that he would be with them (us) until the end of the age.
When we get caught up in the excitement and celebration of the season, let us remember that Jesus is the reason for the season. Christmas is a time of celebration with family and friends. But it is so much more than presents, parties and celebrations. Without Christ, there is no Christmas. Let us celebrate the birth of our Savior with joy and thanksgiving.
